Orchid receives nod for Piperacilin Tazobactam injections

Mumbai: Chennai based Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals on Tuesday said it has received Canadian regulatory approval to sell a combination of antibiotic piperacillin -tazobactam injection in the country, which is used in the treatment of bacterial infection.

The company has received approval from Canadian health care watchdog Therapeutic Products Directorate (TPD) for its abbreviated new drug submission for Piperacilin and Tazobactam injections, the company said in a communique to BSE.

Piperacilin is a penicillin antibiotic which kills certain bacteria that causes infection and treats many kinds of infections including those of the skin. Tazobactam helps Piperacillin to work better.
